THE 2019 NISSAN SENTRA: YOUR COMPLETE GUIDE

Nissan is known for building reliable cars that will last forever. Because of this hard-earned reputation, it is one of the top-selling sedans in the US with 115,676 new cars sold in the first half of 2018.

The 2019 Nissan Sentra continues this legacy and does not disappoint with its stylish looks and modern safety features.

If you're considering buying a new car, the Sentra should be at the top of your list, and here's why.
What's New

Let's start by talking about what you will find new on the 2019 models that you can't get on previous versions of the Sentra. The most significant change is that you can get the NissanConnect infotainment system. It now comes standard on the SR, SL, and Nismo models.

There is also a new SV Special Edition package. It includes a driver safety package, 17-inch wheels, large disk brakes, and a ton of luxury features.
The Models

There are five different trim levels for Sentra, S, SV, SR, SR Turbo, and SL. If you are looking for the most value for your money, the base Model S will give you a sensible economy car.

The step up from the S is the SV. You'll enjoy a five-color display for your driver-assist features. You'll also notice an upgrade in interior quality with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and premium cloth seat.

The SR and SR Turbo take the Sentra up a notch with dual power heated mirrors with LED turn indicators. The interior gets more luxurious with heated front seats.

For those who want to satisfy their inner speed demon, the SR Turbo is sure to please. It comes with a 1.6-liter DIG turbocharged engine. It also features a power sliding glass moonroof.
NISMO

Are you looking for something special? Then the NISMO branded model is your car. It features the same turbocharged engine that the Turbo has. But it stands out with its NISMO specific trim:

  • Aerodynamic body kit
  • Leather-wrapped shift knob
  • Sport front seats wrapped in synthetic suede
  • Signature red stitching
  • Tuned suspensions and steering

Performance

The base model Sentra comes with an economical 1.8-liter engine and a six-speed manual transmission. The continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) will mimic the feel of a traditional automatic. It does this by using simulated shift points.

For models with the turbocharged option, you'll enjoy a boosted off-the-line feel and reduced response times. The horsepower output from the models ranges from 124 to 188.

You'll feel a lightness as you corner through turns that makes driving your Sentra a breeze. The tip and roll you'll feel in the curves give you a sense of adventure and excitement in what would otherwise be "just another sedan".

The sense of comfort you'll feel is completed by the smooth braking that softly brings the car to a complete stop.
Fuel Economy and MPG

In many third party tests, the Sentra outperformed its fuel ratings. But the fuel economy you get will depend on the driving conditions and your drive style.

For city driving the Sentra comes in at 25-29 mpg. For highway driving, you can expect 30-37 mpg.

If fuel economy is important to you, this car is primed for getting you the most bang for your buck. It's on the smaller side, is powered by a two or four-cylinder engine, and has fuel-efficiency calibrated CVT.
Interior Features

One thing you will immediately notice is a large amount of space and rear-seat legroom. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat will expand your capabilities even further. Then combine this with the 15 cubic feet of trunk space, and you'll have plenty of room for anything you'd want to carry.

The base model Sentra includes a nicely sized 7-inch touchscreen. This infotainment system includes Bluetooth, voice recognition, USB ports, and auxiliary ports.

For the rest of the models, you'll have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also upgrade your in-cabin entertainment by opting for the eight-speaker Bose sound system.
Safety Features

The Sentra receives high marks when it comes to safety ratings. It was one of the top safety picks in 2018 for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It also received a four-star rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Nissan doesn't mess around when it comes to safety, and even the base model comes standard with automatic emergency braking. As you move up through the models, more driver assistance features are available.

Some of the most notable safety features are:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Standard automated emergency braking

Warranties

You Sentra is sure to last you for many enjoyable driving years, but doesn't it feel good to have a warranty? Nissan offers a competitive warranty for their cars.

With the purchase of your new Sentra, you will get a limited warranty for three years of 36,000 miles. In addition, you will get a powertrain warranty that covers five years or 60,000 miles.
The Sticker Price

For all of the features, the Sentra comes in at an affordable range of $17,890 to $25,940. Which end of the spectrum you are on depends on the trim package and model you decide on.

Many Nissan dealers offer financing options. You can even apply for pre-qualification to take the stress out of the buying process. This is an excellent option for someone nervous about their credit rating.
